hello my dearhearts!
"One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy.
Five for silver, six for gold, seven for a secret never to be told!"

Haen just happenedThe marginally positive response he offered is apparently all the acknowledgement for the last chatter burst she was looking for. ]There, see I knew you'd trust that I did the best in that situation! That's not the kind of client we're really looking for anyway, if you don't mind me saying so, not that I'm casting disparagement on your choices dear, but I think that man was perhaps playing up some of his issues to gain access to people who are vulnerable and ooh now that I'm thinking about that, I'm getting more than a little incensed by that possibility, I might just have to give him a strong questioning and make sure he didn't lie to us, I will absolutely not stand for someone using your haven like that!

There, see I knew you'd trust that I did the best in that situation! ] Oh. Um, I wasn—
[ That's not the kind of client we're really looking for anyway, if you don't mind me saying so— ] O-Okay, bu—
[ —but I think that man was perhaps playing up some of his issues to gain access to people who are vulnerable and— ] Wait, can we jus—
[ —now that I'm thinking about that, I'm getting more than a little incensed by... ] Yo, I...
[ ...And then there's a pause from Jesse after she's finished breathing words everywhere.
Is... Is she done? Does he speak now?
...??? ]
...Um.
Can we maybe just—
I-I mean, it sounds like you got stuff under control, and-and that's great, yo, but, ah—
[ God, her whirlwind of words has made him totally lose his entire train of thought on everything. ]
I need to talk to you about something.
no subject
Certainly dear, what did you need?

Okay, give him a second to recollect his thoughts here. He rubs his forehead with his fingers and thumb.
If one thing stood out to him in her dervish of words, though, it's give him a strong questioning and make sure he didn't lie to us, and I will absolutely not stand for someone using your haven like that!, and how she genuinely seems to respect his opinion with regards to the business itself. Sounds like, from honest flow of her verbal diarrhoea... that she wouldn't mess him around.
Okay, so that's a positive start.
But is she the kind to blurt stuff all over the place? Surely he wouldn't have employed someone with a big mouth, but jeez, after that introduction, he's not gonna take any chances just yet.
So. Okay. Thoughts collected now. Change of plan. Maybe using her talkativeness to his advantage to check out not only her but the operation of everything would be a better strategy. ]
—Wait, no, a-actually. Um. Go back a few steps first. The guy you were just talkin' about. What happened exactly? Like. Talk me through it so I got a clearer picture here.
[ Oh, boy. ]

[ Even though it's a private inbox, Haen reflexively checks the security level anyway. Patient confidentiality and all that. ]
He's the one that has the second level barbiturates addiction, and that part's real enough, I mean his allosteric modulators are all over the place where they shouldn't be, but even after I've been smoothing them out, they don't seem to be helping, and I've honestly been wracking my brains trying to figure out what I've been doing that hasn't pinpointed the problem and I thought that perhaps he was just sneaking more in, which really defeats the whole purpose of the retreat in the first place, but addiction is a nasty thing so I didn't mention it to anyone else, but that would certainly explain him wanting to stay on longer than he'd originally checked in for, I'd wondered if it was like some odd sort of self-punishment because there are certainly enough people out there doing that, better he try it where there's supervision.
But he's been sort of insistent about being nearby those girls who are weaning off their benzodiazepine, and I didn't really think anything of it until I noted that way he was walking and why would anyone think that's an alluring way to strut about, I mean honestly if he'd been that insecure about himself he could have just asked me for enhancement, Personal Optimizer is a purposely encompassing term. So I told him to stop that, the girls certainly didn't look like they were enjoying his being around, and he didn't listen to me, so now he's got some fused and shortened lateral lumbosacral, let's see him jut out his business where it's not wanted now.

Jesse, bless him, is trying so hard to keep track of this girl's train of thought. Tattoo removal? Is he understanding that right? Allo-something modulators - huh? And— oh. Okay. The bit about the dude hanging around girls in drug recovery.
Well, if that doesn't remind Jesse of the scumbag shit he's been pulling in those NA meetings back at home, until he finally came clean about it. ]
Wait, so— This dude you're talkin' about. Did he do anything to those girls? Like, I mean, are they okay? [ Brief pause, still trying to dissect that huge ass info dump. ] Think he was slinging dope around 'em?
no subject
No, I asked them afterward, and they said things were fine, he'd not bothered them too much! If there'd been a larger problem, I'd have brought it to you much sooner. You've always wanted to know what goes on and if I note anything out of the ordinary.
[ She tilted her head at the question. ]
Hmm, I don't believe so, but I can check on that certainly.
no subject
[ Being he's the owner. Apparently. Good excuse to come in and check out the whole place in general. Not that he needs an excuse, he supposes, if he owns the place, but at least if he's got an objective, a purpose - well, at least he won't have shown up completely aimless. ]
How... How're they both doing, anyway? How's their, uh, their treatment going?
no subject
I'm sure they'll appreciate your reassurance, you do have a way with people!
Martina is taking to the treatments very well, she's nearly ready to be cleared. Amber's still got some chemical hangers-on that I'm working on, but she was a heavier user than Martina to begin with. Optimistically I'd say sometime next week.
[ Treating addictions is more complicated than making genetic changes, Haen has learned. For one thing, it's a lot slower... and she has to respect the pace at which people are fixing themselves rather than fixing them proactively, and that's been hard for her.. ]
... Is everything all right, dear? You sound like your mind is elsewhere.
no subject
At least he'll know exactly how to handle these girls. How to empathise with them. How to talk to them. He knows first-hand what addiction is like, what getting clean is like.
Her question tugs him out of his reverie. ]
—Huh? Oh. [ She can't see it, but his hand has reached up to the back of his neck, giving it an anxious rubbing squeeze. A nervous habit of his when he's uneasy. ] Yeah, um. Just— Got a few things on my mind, is all.
[ He tries to make that sound breezy. No big deal. Swiftly moving on: ]
Actually. Reason I'm calling you, though. There's gonna be a bit of a change. Like. In terms of how I do stuff. [ "Do stuff." Better explain it better than that, Pinkman. But, god, it sounds so weird to say this: ] ...Heal people.
no subject
[ She'll let that part go, for now. He isn't doing anything terribly worrisome, she just is used to him sounding less jittery. ]
Change can be good! Well, let's face it dear, change is the essential hallmark of a genessi, so it's not as though I'm one to find it unlikable.
What sort of changes in your healing?
[ She sounds curious, not suspicious. ]

That's fine dear, you can choose to apply it however you see fit. Is there something different you need me to be doing?

[ To Jesse, it's weird, anyway. Really fucking weird. Like, brand new "what the actual fuck is happening" weird. ]
no subject
Would it be easier to tell me in person?
no subject
Just not sure how many clients're gonna like a random guy kissing them to make 'em feel better. 'Caaause... I gotta kiss 'em. To heal them.
[ God, that's... a really bizarre and humiliating thing to have to say out loud. ]
no subject
[ Give her a moment. Then: ]
... yes, that would be a new method!
[ She already knows that Jesse's healing ability is a Porter-gifted power as opposed to one he arrived with naturally, so she's mulling that information over, particularly in light of Jesse's phrasing of 'gotta'. ]
Why the sudden change, dear? Also, why is the Porter so fixated on making people kiss each other to get things to work properly? It startled me too when I learned it for mine.
no subject
Okay. [ Said with relenting hesitance. Then, conceding outright: ] Look. Okay, look, I got something I need to talk to you about. About— the sudden change, and... other stuff. Rather do it in person, 'cause... I'm gonna need your help. Free this afternoon?
no subject
[ See, that was easy. ]
Would you like me to meet you somewhere?
